CHARLOTTE, N.C., Oct. 23 (UPI) -- UTC Aerospace Systems reports it is developing a generator sub-system for the U.S. military's Abrams M1A2SEPv2 baseline tank. <\/p>\n
The contract was given by General Dynamics Land Systems and is part of an upgrade to the tank, for which General Dynamics was selected by the U.S. Army late last year. <\/p>\n
UTC Aerospace Systems will design, develop, build and qualify the sub-system prototypes, which will include the electric generator and CAN-bus-enabled digital controller. The subsystem will be capable of delivering up to 28 kW of output power at 28VDC to meet the current and future electric power needs of the tank. <\/p>\n
The digital controller will regulate the power and will be developed and supplied by Global Embedded Technologies in Farmington Hills, Mich. <\/p>\n
Prototypes of the sub-system are to be delivered to General Dynamics Land Systems in the second half of next year for installation and qualification field testing. <\/p>\n
UTC Aerospace said its Space Systems business in Illinois will build the generator sub-system but gave no details on the monetary value of the award. <\/p>\n
