PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) Brown University has selected the chairman of the department of medicine at Yales School of Medicine as dean of its medical school. <\/p>\n
Brown announced the appointment of Dr. Jack Elias as dean of medicine and biological sciences last week. He is a specialist in immunobiology and pulmonary medicine who also serves as physician-in-chief at Yale-New Haven Hospital. <\/p>\n
He succeeds Dr. Edward Wing, who is stepping down as of Monday. Brown Provost Mark Schlissel will serve as interim dean until Elias begins on Sept. 1. <\/p>\n
Brown President Christina Paxson said Elias will bring great experience in teaching, research, patient care and administration to Brown. She says Browns medical school and research programs are undergoing significant growth and the university has a new strategic plan to continue the momentum. <\/p>\n
