GULFPORT, MS (WLOX) - <\/p>\n
Fun, sun, and music were on the line up at Gulf Islands Water Park. They hosted the annual DreamFest concert sponsored by the Chris Driebergen foundation. The Driebergen family started their non-profit organization to honor the life of their son Chris. They hold annual events like Dreamfest to raise money for local charities. <\/p>\n
Just six weeks into the 2009-2010 school year, on September 18, 2009, Christopher passed away from injuries sustained as a result of a single vehicle accident. He was on his way home from his girlfriend's house. <\/p>\n
Chris' mom, Kim Driebergen loves what they are able to do with the proceeds. <\/p>\n
\"We've raised over $10,000for kids on the coast. We've provided for scholarships, athletic scholarships, and academic scholarships. We've also provided funds to the court appointed special advocate, CASA,\" said Driebergen. <\/p>\n
The music started when the park doors opened and didn't lapse until the park doors closed. This year's line-up featured lots of local talent including, Hallow Hill, who happened to have been classmates with Chris Driebergen. <\/p>\n
Hallow Hill singer says Dreamfest is one of his favorite events to play. <\/p>\n
\"To me it's just a wonderful experience, an honor to play this. This is our second year doing it now, and it's really an honor just to be part of this wonderful event,\" said Hill. <\/p>\n
Dreamfest is just one of the many events Gulf Islands puts on each year. They hope that events like this will give season ticket holders more bang for their buck. <\/p>\n
One of Chris's life dreams was to have a show and Dreamfest helps to make that a realization for his family. All funds raised through the concert provide contributions to organizations that help enrich the lives of children on the Gulf Coast. The organizations that benefit from this are selected because of their importance to Chris during his lifetime. <\/p>\n
