One Medicine, a term that acknowledges the fundamental similarities between species as they relate to the practice of medicine, is a key focus for several presentations during the 2013 ACVIM Forum. In addition, One Medicine takes a global view of health by recognizing that environmental health is fundamental to all living species. <\/p>\n
Its a concise way of saying animals and people are more similar than different, said Jeffrey Toll, DVM, DACVIM (Small Animal Internal Medicine) and past chair of the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicines (ACVIM) Education and Research Committee. Not only does our work benefit animals, but spontaneous diseases in companion and other animals, such as horses, are being increasingly recognized as more accurate models for human diseases when compared to laboratory animals such as mice. As the veterinary experts on cancer, infections and other animal diseases, collaborations between ACVIM Diplomates and the human biomedical research community were inevitable. <\/p>\n
On Friday June 14th four Scientific Sessions focused on One Medicine will be offered at the Washington State Convention Center. <\/p>\n
