(Elevance), a producer of high-performance renewable specialty chemicals and a recipient of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA)s 2012 Presidential Green Chemistry Challenge Award, co-hosted an event today with the EPA at Elevances headquarters in Woodridge, Illinois to discuss developing improved products using green chemistry. The event featured presentations by Elevance and the EPA and showcased a tour of Elevances laboratories.

Jim Jones, Acting Assistant Administrator for the EPAs Office of Chemical Safety and Pollution Prevention, discussed the objectives of the EPAs Green Chemistry Award program and efforts the EPA is making to accelerate the development of safer products and technologies from Award recipients that represent significant advantages to both consumers and the environment.

Andy Shafer, Executive Vice President of Sales and Marketing for Elevance, provided an update on Elevances progress of commercializing innovative products and hosted a tour of Elevances facility in Woodridge.

The event was a follow up to Assistant Administrator Jones request to learn more about how the EPA can work together with industry leaders like the Green Chemistry Challenge Award winners to accelerate the use of green chemistry technologies and products.

Elevance was recognized for its work using metathesis catalysis to produce high-performing, green specialty chemicals with the Presidential Green Chemistry Challenge Award at a ceremony in Washington, D.C. in June.

Elevance is impressed with the initiative and leadership that the EPA and Jim Jones are demonstrating in support of green chemistry. An efficient and effective regulatory review process is critical to commercializing innovative new chemicals that can provide improved products for consumers, new jobs from the emerging renewable chemicals industry and environmental benefits for everyone, said KLynne Johnson, CEO of Elevance. While we believe that there are also opportunities for legislative support of these goals, todays discussion with Jim and his team highlights both their interest and our commitment to work together under current legislation to enable a vital and growing sector of our economy. We look forward to continued work with the EPA to commercialize renewable technologies and the growth and expansion of biorefineries in the U.S.

Elevance produces high performance and cost advantaged specialty chemicals from renewable oils. Its processes use Nobel Prize-winning innovations in metathesis catalysis, which consume significantly less energy, and reduce GHG emissions by 50 percent compared to petrochemical technologies.

The EPA works closely with companies across the U.S. to promote green chemistry and economic opportunities from renewable products, said Jones. We are here today with Elevance to learn more about how our programs, such as the Presidential Green Chemistry Challenge, can help further promote these innovative chemical technologies.

The Presidential Green Chemistry Challenge was established to recognize and promote innovative chemical technologies that prevent pollution and have broad applicability in industry. The Program recognizes individuals and organizations on a national level for successfully researching, developing, and implementing outstanding green chemical technologies.

Link:
Elevance Renewable Sciences, U.S. Environmental Protection Agency Host Green Chemistry Event in Woodridge, Illinois

WOODRIDGE, Ill.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Elevance Renewable Sciences, Inc.
