In addition, the<br \/>\ninitial silica hydrogels, which are produced<br \/>\nas a first step in manufacturing<br \/>\nthe aerogels, can be quite fragile and<br \/>\ndifficult to handle before cross-linking.<br \/>\nThe addition of the carbon nanofiber<br \/>\nalso improves the strength of the initial<br \/>\nhydrogels before cross-linking, improving<br \/>\nthe manufacturing process.
