PORTSMOUTH Thirty bicyclists of The MS Great 8 will ride through the city en route from Portland, Maine, to New York City, to raise awareness of multiple sclerosis and generate $160,000 in funding for multiple sclerosis research and services. <\/p>\n
The riders are scheduled to arrive Sunday afternoon in the city after riding 75 miles from the starting point in Portland. They are scheduled to leave at 7:30 a.m. Monday from the Courtyard by Marriott on Market Street, on Day 2 of their 425-mile, eight-day trek. <\/p>\n
The MS Great 8 Foundation provides funding to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society to support research and treatments to stop progression, restore function and end the disease while helping address challenges of living with its unpredictable symptoms. The foundation was founded in 2007 by Co-Presidents Mike Zimits, who was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis 14 years ago, and Catherine Tsigakos, whose brother was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis 25 years ago. <\/p>\n
