But theres much more to it than that. Freedom Sings a free show at 7 p.m Thursday at the Palace Theatre is a touring, multimedia stage production that features two country hit-makers, Princes former guitarist and the Steve Miller Bands keyboardist. <\/p>\n
Musically, the concert runs a wide gamut, from Francis Scott Key to the Black-Eyed Peas, from This Land is Your Land to LMFAO. <\/p>\n
Youll hear Neil Youngs Ohio, Randy Newmans Short People, a surprising version of My Humps. Theres Beatles, Elvis, Dylan, Woody Guthrie, said Ken Paulson, the shows narrator and creator, the president and CEO of the First Amendment Center in Nashville and a former editor of USA Today. <\/p>\n
FUNNY, IRREVERENT, INSPIRATIONAL Its a concert that features songs that were once censored or inspired change, Paulson said. Its educational in a very entertaining way. The name Freedom Sings sounds a little like Up With People, but its a very funny, irreverent and inspirational evening. <\/p>\n
The First Amendment of the United States Constitution is the one that protects the freedoms of speech, religion and the press. <\/p>\n
Singer-songwriter Lari White, who scored three top-10 country hits in the mid-90s, has been an avid participant in Freedom Sings concerts and will be part of the Canton show, which is presented by The Repository. <\/p>\n
Its about stirring people up, so that they can consciously recognize and viscerally experience the reality of what it means to be free, White said about the show. Your government does not have the right to silence you! That is such an anomaly in the course of human history! <\/p>\n
In various Freedom Sings programs, White has sung everything from Joanie Sommers 1962 hit Johnny Get Angry (with the lyrics I want a brave man, I want a cave man) to Beyonces Girls Who Run the World. <\/p>\n
