The Liberty Mutual Insurance board of directors today elected David H. Long, 52, chairman of Liberty Mutual Insurance, effective June 28. <\/p>\n
Long, who is currently the companys president and chief executive officer, will succeed Edmund F. (Ted) Kelly, 67, who is retiring as chairman and director at the end of June. <\/p>\n
Long has served in various leadership positions at Liberty Mutual over his 28-year career with the company. He became president in 2010 and chief executive officer in 2011. <\/p>\n
All of us at Liberty Mutual Insurance owe Ted Kelly a tremendous debt of gratitude for his leadership and vision in transforming Liberty Mutual Insurance into the fifth largest global property and casualty insurer, said Long. Boston-based Liberty Mutual Insurance, founded in 1912, is a diversified global insurer and the third largest property and casualty insurer in the United States based on 2011 direct premiums written as reported by the National Association of Insurance Commissioners. <\/p>\n
Liberty Mutual Insurance ranks 84th on the Fortune 100 list of largest corporations in the United States based on 2011 revenue. As of Dec. 31, 2012, Liberty Mutual Insurance had $120.1 billion in consolidated assets, $101.5 billion in consolidated liabilities, and $36.9 billion in annual consolidated revenue. <\/p>\n
