{"id":75232,"date":"2013-03-29T23:47:57","date_gmt":"2013-03-30T03:47:57","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.euvolution.com\/futurist-transhuman-news-blog\/uncategorized\/chinese-medicine-may-hold-the-key-to-treating-diabetes.php"},"modified":"2013-03-29T23:47:57","modified_gmt":"2013-03-30T03:47:57","slug":"chinese-medicine-may-hold-the-key-to-treating-diabetes","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.euvolution.com\/futurist-transhuman-news-blog\/medicine\/chinese-medicine-may-hold-the-key-to-treating-diabetes.php","title":{"rendered":"Chinese medicine may hold the key to treating diabetes"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><p>    Traditional Chinese medicine could be a key weapon in    the treatment of type 2 diabetes, a joint international study    has found.  <\/p>\n<p>    TCM in addition to conventional drugs could be modern medicines    best way of treating type 2 diabetes, a joint international    study has revealed.  <\/p>\n<p>    Researchers, including The University of Queenslands Dr Sanjoy    Paul and Peking Universitys Professor Lilong Ji from Beijing,    have found that conventional drugs were significantly more    effective when used alongside traditional Chinese medicine in    the treatment of type 2 diabetes.  <\/p>\n<p>    The study involved a controlled clinical trial of 800 type 2    diabetic adults, comparing anti-diabetic drug Glibenclamide as    a stand-alone treatment and treatment with Glibenclamide in    conjunction with traditional Chinese medicine.  <\/p>\n<p>    Dr Paul, who is Director of the Queensland Clinical Trials and    Biostatistics Centre in UQs School of Population Health, said    results showed patients treated with traditional Chinese    medicine were more than a third less likely to experience    hypoglycaemia  dangerously low levels of blood sugar  than    those treated with Glibenclamide only.  <\/p>\n<p>    They were also less likely to experience other symptoms of    diabetes, including fatigue, hunger and palpitation, Dr Paul    said.  <\/p>\n<p>    Traditional Chinese medicine has long been used to treat    diabetes in China and around the world but until now there has    been a lack of evidence regarding its safety and efficacy.  <\/p>\n<p>    This absence of scientific understanding has caused scepticism    and criticism about traditional Chinese medicine.  <\/p>\n<p>    Dr Paul said that more studies were needed to interpret just    how traditional Chinese medicine worked to reduce    hypoglycaemia, but the study results highlighted its potential    to reduce the treatment gap in developing countries where    diabetes was at epidemic proportions.  <\/p>\n<p>    A vast majority of people in developing countries depend on    herbal medicine for basic health care, Dr Paul said.  <\/p>\n<p><!-- Auto Generated --><\/p>\n<p>Continued here:<\/p>\n<p><a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.australasianscience.com.au\/news\/march-2013\/chinese-medicine-may-hold-key-treating-diabetes.html\" title=\"Chinese medicine may hold the key to treating diabetes\">Chinese medicine may hold the key to treating diabetes<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p> Traditional Chinese medicine could be a key weapon in the treatment of type 2 diabetes, a joint international study has found.
