\n\t\t\t\tsurrounded largely by two types of star: dark main-sequence
\n\t\t\t\tstars and degenerate dwarfs.\u00a0 Stars like the Sun are the
\n\t\t\t\texception rather than the rule, and the more luminous A stars
\n\t\t\t\tand red giants are rather rare.\u00a0 The brilliant and massive
\n\t\t\t\tsupergiant O and B stars, of which Rigel in the constellation
\n\t\t\t\tOrion is an example, are completely absent from the local
\n\t\t\t\tstellar neighborhood, despite their prominence in the night
\n\t\t\t\tsky.\u00a0 Most stars in the Galactic disk are much less luminous
\n\t\t\t\tthan the Sun, and most of the stellar mass of the Galactic
