\n HUNTSVILLE, Alabama -- So, what do you get when you combine a
\n couple of local industries - biotechnology and defense?\n <\/p>\n
\n The result is a series of talks presented by the Partnership
\n for Biotechnology Research called \"Connections: Engineering and
\n Biotechnology.\"\n <\/p>\n
\n The first seminar, sponsored by Nexus, was held in September
\n and addressed green energy and biotech.\n <\/p>\n
\n Next week, SAIC will host a seminar on the business of biotech
\n engineering featuring Dr. David Ku, director of the Program for
\n Engineering Entrepreneurship at Georgia Tech.\n <\/p>\n
\n \"The series was created to link biotechnology with a variety of
\n disciplines to help grow and diversify our community's
\n economy,\" said Dr. Adam Hott, coordinator of educational
\n outreach at HudsonAlpha Institute for Biotechnology and
\n president of the Partnership for Biotechnology Research.\n <\/p>\n
\n Ku will discuss his experiences bringing biotechnology
\n solutions to the patient's bedside and developing start-up
\n companies through careful selection of methods for product
\n development, Hott said.\n <\/p>\n
\n \"His background, encompassing roles of engineer, scientist,
\n surgeon and entrepreneur will, I'm sure, strike a chord with
\n audience members,\" Hott said. \"Hopefully ... attendees will
\n find the the encouragement or inspiration to explore new
\n ventures.\"\n <\/p>\n
\n The seminar is Feb. 6 from 11:45 a.m. to 1 p.m. at SAIC, 6723
\n Odyssey Drive. Registration is limited to 70
