The cryostat can cool experiments to 0.01 degrees above absolute zero (-273 deg C). The instrument consists of two rotating carousels. The upper carousel houses the pumps and gas handling system. The dilution refrigerator (and experimental cell) are mounted below the lower carousel. The dilution refrigerator and gas handling system were built by Oxford Instruments. The project is funded by EPSRC. We are using this new instrument to probe quantum turbulence in superfluid helium in the limit of zero temperature.
