OAKLAND, Calif., Dec. 4, 2012 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Alameda County Medical Center (ACMC http:\/\/www.acmedctr.org<\/a>), a leading public health care provider, has hired Peter Rudd, MD as its new Chair of the Department of Medicine. <\/p>\n Dr. Rudd began his new role December 1, leading ACMC's largest department with approximately 200 affiliated providers across all specialties. The Department of Medicine is responsible for daily medical care at ACMC's main campus, Highland Hospital, as well as the training of approximately 65 Internal Medicine residents each year in preliminary, primary care, and categorical tracks. <\/p>\n \"We are delighted to welcome Dr. Rudd to Alameda County Medical Center,\" said Dr. Taft Bhuket, ACMC's chief of medical staff. \"His credentials and record of success reflect a passion for teaching the science and art of medicine and demonstrate best-in-class healthcare management acumen. He attended medical school at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio; completed his internship and residency at Stanford University Affiliated Hospitals; and his Clinical Scholar fellowship at McGill University (Royal Victoria Hospital) in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. <\/p>\n He most recently served as the Professor of Medicine, active emeritus, with the Stanford University School of Medicine, Stanford, CA. He began his work with Stanford in 1977 as an Assistant Professor, having relocated from the University of Chicago where he served as the Assistant Professor for the Section of General Medicine in the Department of Medicine. <\/p>\n During his time at Stanford, Dr. Rudd also served as the Director for the Department of Medicine Quality Assurance\/Quality Improvement Programs; Chair of the Physical Examination Task Force; and as a member of the Faculty Senate. He also served on the IT Executive Steering Committee, Quality Improvement and Patient Safety Committee, and Care Improvement Committee. <\/p>\n Dr. Rudd is a Diplomat of the National Board of Medicine Examiners and the American Board of Internal Medicine. He is a Fellowship Recipient of the W.K. Kellogg Foundation, the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, and the California Healthcare Foundation Leadership Training Program. He also received the Henry J.
