UNIDO, Siati tie up to help Bangalore aerospace SMEs <\/p>\n

United Nations Industrial Development Organisation (UNIDO) and the Society of Indian Aerospace Technologies and Industries (Siati) have partnered to create a long-term development programme for Bangalore-based aerospace small and medium enterprises (SMEs). <\/p>\n
Alejandro Vera Casso, adviser to ITP in UNDIO-Vienna, said, The two organisations are to help SMEs in sub-contracting and partnership exchange, prepare for supplier development programmes and help them through matchmaking services via global networks. <\/p>\n
The UNDIO which began supporting the governments in preparing feasibility studies for building large public sector undertakings (PSUs) in the early 70s is now focusing on strengthening SMEs. <\/p>\n
According to M.N. Vidyashankar, Principal Secretary, State Commerce and Industries Department, the Karnataka Government is planning to unveil an Aerospace Policy after the winter session of the State Assembly at Belgaum. <\/p>\n
The policy will be in place before the AeroIndia show in 2013 and aims to attract global investments and make Bangalore city a major aerospace hub in South Asia, he said. <\/p>\n
Vidyashankar said the government has taken inputs from everybody in the aerospace sector and will be the first State in the country to announce an aerospace policy. <\/p>\n
Talking about the progress of work on Aerospace Park near Bangalore International Airport, he said, SunForest City Ventures which bagged the order at the global investors meet (GIM) is to shortly submit its 10-year perspective plan. <\/p>\n
Vidyashankar further said, Of the 39 companies which showed interest, about 7\/8 companies have firmed up their plans and of these three units are almost ready for launch and one of them will launch its production on January 25 next year. <\/p>\n<\/p>\n
