Klaksvk-Municipality (Klaksvk-nir-rnafjrur-Mikladalur-Trllanes)
Klaksvk Population 4670 Klaksvk is the second largest town of the Faroe Islands. The town is located on Boroy, which is one of the northernmost islands. Klaksvk is located between two inlets lying back to back. It has an important harbour with fishing-industry and a modern fishing-fleet. Originally four farms were at the location where Klaksvk is now. By time they grew into four villages that finally merged to what now is called Klaksvk. What really kicked off the development towards a town was the set up of a centralized store for all the northern islands on the location. The church Christians-kirkjan is from 1963. Its architecture is unconventional with a detached bell-frame. It is made of Faeroese basalt and wood. Inside the church a Faroese rowing boat is hanging down from the ceiling. The font is made of a 4000 years old heathen sacrificial bowl originating from Denmark. The most popular beer in the Faroe Islands called #39;Froya Bjr #39; is brewed in Klaksvk. On the east-brink of Boroydarvik there are some ruins after a farm that was buried by an avalanche on march 12th in 1745 and then again on the very same date 20 years later. Also some excavated ruins from the Vikings called Islendingatoftir can be seen in the area. Klaksvk has an annual civic festival called Nordoyastevna.
