WASHINGTON (AP) - Libertarian Bruce Majors says he is happy despite losing the election last week for the District of Columbia's seat in Congress. <\/p>\n
That's because the more than 13,000 votes he earned were enough to get his party on general election ballots for the next four years without having to gather signature for a petition. Bob Johnston, a national Libertarian Party employee who monitors ballot access issues, told the Washington Post that the district now joins 30 states in granting the party regular ballot access. <\/p>\n
Major says the challenge of 11-term incumbent Democrat Eleanor Holmes Norton was chosen carefully. He ran during a presidential election year when more voters turn out and in a year where Republicans didn't run a candidate of their own. <\/p>\n
