{"id":55726,"date":"2012-11-03T23:49:57","date_gmt":"2012-11-03T23:49:57","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.euvolution.com\/futurist-transhuman-news-blog\/uncategorized\/channel-islands-tops-hueneme-24-20.php"},"modified":"2012-11-03T23:49:57","modified_gmt":"2012-11-03T23:49:57","slug":"channel-islands-tops-hueneme-24-20","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.euvolution.com\/futurist-transhuman-news-blog\/islands\/channel-islands-tops-hueneme-24-20.php","title":{"rendered":"Channel Islands tops Hueneme 24-20"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><p>    The 2012 version of the South Oxnard rivalry would determine    whether it was Channel Islands or Hueneme Vikings that ended    its season with its first and only Pacific View League win.  <\/p>\n<p>    Channel Islands came out the winner, as running back Richard    Gray returned to action after being out for about a month and    rushed the ball 23 times for 158 yards to lead a 24-20 win over    visiting Hueneme.  <\/p>\n<p>    \"For him to come in and just dominate the game, as far as    helping us maintain the ball the whole game, was very nice,\"    Channel Islands head coach Gary Porter said of Gray's effort.  <\/p>\n<p>    The Raiders also made some big plays throughout the game, such    as a 71-yard touchdown pass from Ricky Estrada to Paul Vasquez    and a 58-yard touchdown run by Aoese Oto in the fourth quarter.  <\/p>\n<p>    Hueneme got a big effort from quarterback Adan Salas, who    completed 23 of 37 passes for 209 yards, and running back Abner    Melendez, who rushed for 73 yards and two touchdowns while also    catching six passes for 46 yards.  <\/p>\n<p>    \"That was a great effort by everybody,\" Hueneme head coach    Brett Davis said. \"They gave it all near the end and I couldn't    be any prouder of this group.\"  <\/p>\n<p>    Channel Islands (4-6, 1-4) led 17-7 at halftime and maintained    its lead throughout the second half, thanks in large part to an    efficient running game and a stingy defense that stopped    Hueneme on several fourth downs.  <\/p>\n<p>    Channel Islands had seemingly put the game away midway in the    fourth quarter when Aoese Oto broke loose near the Raiders    sideline for a 58-yard touchdown run with 7:25 remaining.  <\/p>\n<p>    Hueneme (1-9, 0-5) went down swinging, scoring its second    touchdown at 1:53 when Melendez's 1-yard run sealed a 13-play,    77-yard drive.  <\/p>\n<p>    The Vikings then recovered a Raiders fumble at their 18-yard    line and quickly took advantage.  <\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p>Excerpt from:<\/p>\n<p><a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.vcstar.com\/news\/2012\/nov\/02\/channel-islands-tops-hueneme-24-20\/?partner=yahoo_feeds\" title=\"Channel Islands tops Hueneme 24-20\">Channel Islands tops Hueneme 24-20<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p> The 2012 version of the South Oxnard rivalry would determine whether it was Channel Islands or Hueneme Vikings that ended its season with its first and only Pacific View League win.
