Health Care Services <\/p>\n
What it would do: Amend the state constitution to prohibit any Florida law or governmental rule that would require any person or employer to have or provide health care coverage. Also would prohibit any law abolishing the private market for health care coverage and prohibit any penalties or taxes for paying directly for health care services. <\/p>\n
Lawmakers put the amendment on the ballot before the U.S. Supreme Court ruling that upholding the individual mandate portion of the federal Affordable Care Act that requires most Americans to buy health-care coverage. That ruling means states cant opt out of the requirement. <\/p>\n
AMENDMENT 2 <\/p>\n
Veterans Disabled Due to Combat Injury; Homestead Property Tax Discount. <\/p>\n
What it would do: Amend the constitution to expand the availability of the extra $25,000 homestead exemption. Veterans disabled by a combat injury and who were not Florida residents when they entered the military would be eligible for the exemption. Applies to assessments for local government and school district taxes; would take effect Jan. 1. <\/p>\n
