The proposal to change the state's constitution is opposed by 44% of likely voters and supported by 42%. <\/p>\n
The proposed amendment is sponsored by Service Employees International Union, which wants to hold onto a union of home health care workers that will otherwise be dissolved. <\/p>\n
Pollster Bernie Porn of EPIC-MRA, which conducted the survey, said the proposed change to the constitution remains a long shot in part because voters who haven't decided yet will either not vote on the proposals or vote no. <\/p>\n

\"The sheer number of proposals leads to a lot of confusion,\" Porn said. <\/p>\n
Like the other union-sponsored proposals on the ballot, Proposal 4 gets stronger support from voters who back President Barack Obama (64%), among union members (52%), and from African-American voters (68%). Only 19% of Mitt Romney supporters and 36% of nonunion members plan to vote yes on Proposal 4. <\/p>\n
About 30% of Michigan adults live in a union household -- meaning about 70% don't. <\/p>\n
Charles Peterson, 73, of Detroit is one voter who said he was having a hard time warming up to any of the proposals. Peterson, who spent part of his working career as a Teamster, said he doesn't consider himself pro- or anti-union. <\/p>\n
But he said he doesn't like the idea of using the constitution to carve out special privileges. <\/p>\n<\/p>\n
