Soldiers from 2nd Battalion The Royal Welsh regiment are to exercise their right to march through Bridgend with colours flying and bayonets fixed. <\/p>\n
The Freedom of Bridgend was conferred on The Royal Welsh in August 2008. <\/p>\n
On Wednesday, the battalion's Fire Support Company will march through the town, joined by the Band of the Prince of Wales Division. <\/p>\n
Around 130 troops are expected to take part in the event, led by Shenkin the Regimental Goat and the Goat Major. <\/p>\n
Army cadets and ex-servicemen from the county are also to take part. <\/p>\n
The battalion deployed as sub-units to Afghanistan from 2009 to 2011, although more recently it has provided training for troops deploying to Operation Herrick. <\/p>\n
Fire Support Company is one of three units making up the battalion, which recruits from around Wales although it is based in Tidworth, Wiltshire. <\/p>\n
Having the freedom of the the town means the battalion is allowed to parade with colours flying, bayonets fixed, drums beating and bands playing. <\/p>\n
The parade will march through Queen Street, Caroline Street, Adare Street and Wyndham Street before ending at Bridgend Recreation Centre. <\/p>\n<\/p>\n
