The algorithm flagged it for being \" overtly sexualized. style=\"padding-left:10px; padding-right: 10px;\"><\/div><h2>Peeling Back<\/h2><p>Facebook&rsquo;s automated anti-nudity filters finally stopped impressionable children from seeing unimaginable filth on their timelines: a pile of onions that was flagged for being inappropriate.<\/p><p>Gaze Seed Company tried to advertise on Facebook using a picture of a pile of onions in a basket to market its seeds, <em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbc.ca\/news\/canada\/newfoundland-labrador\/onions-too-sexy-for-facebook-1.5750881\">CBC <\/a><\/em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbc.ca\/news\/canada\/newfoundland-labrador\/onions-too-sexy-for-facebook-1.5750881\">reports<\/a>, but was blocked by Facebook&rsquo;s algorithm. The official reason? Facebook&rsquo;s algorithms decided that the picture was &ldquo;overtly sexualized.&rdquo; It&rsquo;s a funny error, sure, and one that raises questions about the sorts of things these algorithms are into &mdash; but at a more basic level, it also illustrates that AI content moderation <a href=\"https:\/\/futurism.com\/facebook-human-algorithm-hate-speech\">still isn&rsquo;t ready<\/a> for prime time.<\/p><div><\/div><div data-href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/TheSeedCompanyNL\/posts\/2683168191946074\" data-width=\"500\"><blockquote cite=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/TheSeedCompanyNL\/posts\/2683168191946074\"><p>So we just got notified by Facebook that the photo used for our Walla Walla Onion seed is \"Overtly Sexual\" and therefore cannot be advertised to be sold on their platform&hellip; <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/s.w.org\/images\/core\/emoji\/12.0.0-1\/72x72\/1f602.png\" alt=\"?\" class=\"wp-smiley\" style=\"padding-left:10px; padding-right: 10px;\"> Can you see it?<\/p><p>Posted by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/TheSeedCompanyNL\/\">The Seed Company by E.W.
