LONG BEACH, N.Y. Authorities in Nassau County are cracking down on Long Beach following a rowdy weekend of hundreds of beachgoers who weren't following pandemic rules.<\/p>\n
Some residents said the crowds were young adults who were drinking and gathering in large crowds.<\/p>\n
A curfew has been set for the beaches on Long Beach. Beaches will now close at 8:00 p.m., and the boardwalk will shut down an hour later, at 9:00 pm., according to police.<\/p>\n
The curfew begins on Thursday.<\/p>\n
The city is also limiting the sale of non-resident daily passes to weekdays only.<\/p>\n
Meaning, if you don't live on Long Beach, you won't be able to come to the beach on the weekend.<\/p>\n
Riptides owner Brian Braddish said people need to follow the rules or everyone, including his business, will be penalized.<\/p>\n
Closing the boardwalk at 9:00 would be a good thing because theres been issues, and police presence is a good thing. Not having out-of-town residents here is going to hurt my business and hurt the revenue for Long Beach, said Braddish.<\/p>\n
The measures are in place to keep the people safe.<\/p>\n
The new hours will last until further notice.<\/p>\n
The City Council is expected to discuss more about the new hours Tuesday night.<\/p>\n
