Now, researchers at the Georgia Institute of Technology have devised a simple, cheap way to harness that wasted energy: <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.popsci.com\/technology\/article\/2011-07\/new-printable-devices-can-harvest-ambient-energy-power-small-electronics\">capturing it with inkjet-printed antennas and storing it in batteries<\/a>.<\/p><p><strong>How the Heck:<\/strong><\/p><p> Electrical engineer Manos Tentzeris and his team created an ink mixture containing nanoparticles of silver, which, as a <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Electrical_conductor\">conductor<\/a>, is <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/blogs.discovermagazine.com\/discoblog\/2011\/06\/29\/silver-pen-lets-you-draw-your-own-circuits\/\">useful for building circuits<\/a>. Using an inkjet printer, they printed radio frequency components and circuits onto paper and flexible plastic.<br>The printed antennas receive a wide range of frequencies&mdash;100 MHz to 60 GHz (that is, all the way from <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/FM_broadcasting#Broadcast_bands\">FM radio<\/a> to <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Radar\">radar<\/a>).
