NASSAU, BAHAMAS The Bahamas Department of Meteorology has issued a severe weather warning for Central and Northwest Bahamas.<\/p>\n
This includes Abaco, Andros, Bimini, Cat Island, Eleuthera, Exuma, Grand Bahama, Long Island, Rum Cay, San Salvador and the Berry Islands.<\/p>\n
The warning will remain in effect until midnight.<\/p>\n
According to meteorologists, moderate to heavy rainfall along with thunderstorms associated with low to mid-level troughing was spotted via satellite imagers and radars from the gulf of Mexico and northwestern Caribbean sea.<\/p>\n
This moist airmass is expected to produce prolonged rainfall, so localized flooding is possible during this event, the department said around 1pm.<\/p>\n
Some of the thunderstorms will be severe at times and may cause strong gusty winds; dangerous lightning; heavy downpours; hail and possible waterspout or tornadic activity.<\/p>\n
The department said boaters in the warning area should remain in port and residents should remain indoors and away from windows as conditions worsen.<\/p>\n
