At least according to <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.publicpolicypolling.com\/pdf\/PPP_Release_MS_0407915.pdf\">Public Policy Polling<\/a>. That seems rather high. So I decided to go back and look at the RACMAR variable in the <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/sda.berkeley.edu\/cgi-bin\/hsda?harcsda+gss10\">General Social Survey<\/a>. Here&rsquo;s the question:<\/p><blockquote><p>Do you think there should be laws against marriages between African-Americans and whites?<\/p><\/blockquote><p>They kept asking the question for 30 years, but dropped it in 2002. Here&rsquo;s the reason:<\/p><p><a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/euvolution.com\/futurist-transhuman-news-blog\/wp-content\/plugins\/wp-o-matic\/cache\/844ed_racmartrend.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-10805\" src=\"http:\/\/euvolution.com\/futurist-transhuman-news-blog\/wp-content\/plugins\/wp-o-matic\/cache\/844ed_racmartrend.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"585\" height=\"302\" style=\"padding-left:10px; padding-right: 10px;\"><\/a><\/p><p>By 2002 it was a consistent finding that less than 10% of Americans would accede to the proposition that interracial marriage should be legally banned. So the finding that that 46% of Mississippi Republicans agree with that position, and that only 40% reject it outright, is somewhat curious. Here&rsquo;s the question in PPP:<\/p><blockquote><p>Do you think interracial marriage should be legal or illegal?<\/p><\/blockquote><p>The outcomes were:<\/p><p>- 40% said legal<\/p><p>- 46% said illegal<\/p><p>- 14% were not sure<\/p><p>Remember that the sample was limited to Mississippi Republicans. Let&rsquo;s go back and look at some of the demographic correlates for the responses to RACMAR between 1998 and 2002, when the proportion responding yes and no was relatively constant.
