This dubious honor is called the Pigasus Award after Randi&rsquo;s official mascot, the flying pig, as in \"XXX will be true when pigs fly\" &mdash; values of XXX include homeopathy, faith healing, dowsing, etc. The awards are appropriately given out every April 1. <\/p><p>This year&rsquo;s crop <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.randi.org\/site\/index.php\/jref-news\/1260-pigasus-2011.html\">has just been announced<\/a>. I was not surprised to see Richard Hoover listed there for <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/blogs.discovermagazine.com\/badastronomy\/2011\/03\/07\/followup-thoughts-on-the-meteorite-fossils-claim\/\">his extremely shaky announcement<\/a> of life in a meteorite. Hoover published his claims in the Journal of Cosmology, and while I was pretty clear in my posts about the extremely shaky nature of this journal, the JREF simply calls them \"crackpot\". Heh.<\/p><p>I do have a quibble with the awards this year though. Our old friend Andrew Wakefield &mdash; the <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/blogs.discovermagazine.com\/badastronomy\/2010\/06\/01\/wakefields-walk-of-shame\/\">defrocked<\/a>, <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/blogs.discovermagazine.com\/badastronomy\/2009\/03\/28\/antivaxxers-and-their-trouble-with-truth\/\">debunked<\/a>, and <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/blogs.discovermagazine.com\/badastronomy\/2011\/01\/05\/breaking-bmj-calls-andrew-wakefield-a-fraud\/\">discredited<\/a> founder of the modern antivax movement &mdash; was given the \"Refusal to Face Reality Award\" for his ongoing (and wrong) claims that vaccines cause ...<\/p><p><a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/feedads.g.doubleclick.net\/~a\/uleyxxwsQinY5OTk8Wh07F8Jm6Y\/0\/da\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/euvolution.com\/futurist-transhuman-news-blog\/wp-content\/plugins\/wp-o-matic\/cache\/b105e_di\" border=\"0\" style=\"padding-left:10px; padding-right: 10px;\"><\/a><br><a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/feedads.g.doubleclick.net\/~a\/uleyxxwsQinY5OTk8Wh07F8Jm6Y\/1\/da\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/euvolution.com\/futurist-transhuman-news-blog\/wp-content\/plugins\/wp-o-matic\/cache\/b105e_di\" border=\"0\" style=\"padding-left:10px; padding-right: 10px;\"><\/a><\/p><p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/euvolution.com\/futurist-transhuman-news-blog\/wp-content\/plugins\/wp-o-matic\/cache\/b105e_UWLUyA_MKr4\" height=\"1\" width=\"1\" style=\"padding-left:10px; padding-right: 10px;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/euvolution.com\/futurist-transhuman-news-blog\/wp-content\/plugins\/wp-o-matic\/cache\/b105e_z7avLs0Zwfs\" height=\"1\" width=\"1\" style=\"padding-left:10px; padding-right: 10px;\"><\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Every year, the James Randi Educational Foundation picks the people or organizations who have done the most to promote antireality nonsense and get the public to believe in provably untrue silliness.
