The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) <a href=\"https:\/\/futurism.com\/spacex-satellites-approval-fcc\">approved SpaceX&rsquo;s request<\/a> in November to launch an additional 7,518, bringing up the total of approved satellites to almost 12,000.<\/p><p>In a <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/elonmusk\/status\/1127391581072347137\">May 11 tweet<\/a>, Musk admitted that &ldquo;much will likely go wrong on first mission,&rdquo; adding that at least six more launches of 60 satellites (360 in total) are &ldquo;needed for minor coverage, 12 for moderate.&rdquo;<\/p><blockquote data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\"><p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Starlink's flat-panel design allows for a dense launch stack to take full advantage of Falcon 9&rsquo;s launch capabilities <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/ntnJInEfno\">pic.twitter.com\/ntnJInEfno<\/a><\/p><p>&mdash; SpaceX (@SpaceX) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/SpaceX\/status\/1131748249763639296?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">May 24, 2019<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote><h2>Satellite Clutter<\/h2><p>The satellites aren&rsquo;t orbiting at the altitude of most other satellites currently in orbit.<\/p><p>They are cruising at an operational altitude of just 340 miles (550 km) to avoid adding to the growing <a href=\"https:\/\/futurism.com\/tags\/space-junk\">space debris problem<\/a>.
