{"id":317521,"date":"2019-03-16T15:52:35","date_gmt":"2019-03-16T19:52:35","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.euvolution.com\/futurist-transhuman-news-blog\/uncategorized\/samsung-is-working-on-phone-with-invisible-camera-behind-screen.php"},"modified":"2019-03-16T15:52:35","modified_gmt":"2019-03-16T19:52:35","slug":"samsung-is-working-on-phone-with-invisible-camera-behind-screen","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.euvolution.com\/futurist-transhuman-news-blog\/futurism\/samsung-is-working-on-phone-with-invisible-camera-behind-screen.php","title":{"rendered":"Samsung Is Working on Phone With \u201cInvisible\u201d Camera Behind Screen"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p><div><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"300\" height=\"158\" src=\"https:\/\/wp-assets.futurism.com\/2019\/03\/samsungs-perfect-full-screen-phone-300x158.png\" class=\"attachment-medium size-medium wp-post-image\" alt=\"A Samsung exec has shared new details on the company's efforts to create a full-screen phone, one with the camera embedded beneath the display.\" style=\"padding-left:10px; padding-right: 10px;\"><\/div><h2>Punch It<\/h2><p>Just last month, South Korean tech&nbsp;giant Samsung unveiled the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.samsung.com\/us\/mobile\/galaxy-s10\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Galaxy S10<\/a>, a phone with just a single hole punched in the screen to accommodate its front-facing camera.<\/p><p>On Thursday, a Samsung exec <a href=\"https:\/\/en.yna.co.kr\/view\/AEN20190314008700320\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">shared new details<\/a> on the company&rsquo;s intentions to create a&nbsp;&ldquo;perfect full-screen&rdquo; phone, with an &ldquo;invisible&rdquo; camera behind the screen to eliminate the need for&nbsp;any visible holes or sensors&nbsp;&mdash; confirming that one of the biggest players in tech sees edge-to-edge screens as the <a href=\"https:\/\/futurism.com\/the-byte\/samsung-galaxy-fold\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">future of mobile devices<\/a>.<\/p><h2>Hidden Tech<\/h2><p>During a press briefing <a href=\"https:\/\/en.yna.co.kr\/view\/AEN20190314008700320\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">covered by&nbsp;<em>Yonhap News Agency<\/em><\/a>, Samsung&rsquo;s Mobile Communication R&amp;D Group Display Vice President Yang Byung-duk said the company&rsquo;s goal is to create a phone with a screen that covers the&nbsp;entire front of the device&nbsp;&mdash; but consumers shouldn&rsquo;t expect it in the immediate future.<\/p><p>&ldquo;Though it wouldn&rsquo;t be possible to make (a full-screen smartphone) in the next 1-2 years,&rdquo;&nbsp;Yang said, &ldquo;the technology can move forward to the point where the camera hole will be invisible, while not affecting the camera&rsquo;s function in any way.&rdquo;<\/p><h2>Quest for Perfection<\/h2><p>This isn&rsquo;t Samsung&rsquo;s first mention of an uninterrupted full-screen phone &mdash; as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theverge.com\/2019\/3\/14\/18265265\/samsung-all-display-phone-under-screen-selfie-camera-no-cutout\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">pointed out by <em>The Verge<\/em><\/a>, the company discussed its ambitions to put the front-facing camera under a future device&rsquo;s screen during a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.xda-developers.com\/samsung-display-under-display-camera\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">presentation<\/a> in October.<\/p><p>That presentation included a few additional details on how the camera in a full-screen phone would work.<\/p><p>Essentially, the entire screen would serve as a display whenever the front-facing camera wasn&rsquo;t in use.
