{"id":309448,"date":"2019-01-03T12:56:22","date_gmt":"2019-01-03T17:56:22","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.euvolution.com\/futurist-transhuman-news-blog\/uncategorized\/hyundai-debuts-a-walking-car-with-four-legs.php"},"modified":"2019-01-03T12:56:22","modified_gmt":"2019-01-03T17:56:22","slug":"hyundai-debuts-a-walking-car-with-four-legs","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.euvolution.com\/futurist-transhuman-news-blog\/futurism\/hyundai-debuts-a-walking-car-with-four-legs.php","title":{"rendered":"Hyundai Debuts a Walking Car With Four Legs"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p><div><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"300\" height=\"158\" src=\"https:\/\/wp-assets.futurism.com\/2019\/01\/walking-car-hyundai-elevate-300x158.jpg\" class=\"attachment-medium size-medium wp-post-image\" alt=\"South Korean automaker Hyundai has unveiled Elevate, a walking car concept that it claims represents an entirely new category of vehicle.\" style=\"padding-left:10px; padding-right: 10px;\"><\/div><h2>Walk This Way<\/h2><p>Hyundai&rsquo;s CES 2019 press conference on Monday might just end up being standing-room only.<\/p><p>During the event, the South Korean automaker will reveal more information about Elevate,&nbsp;a walking car &mdash; and it just might represent an entirely new category of vehicles.<\/p><h2>Rise Above<\/h2><p>Hyundai teased Elevate with a short <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hyundai.com\/worldwide\/en\/news\/news-room\/news\/innovative-hyundai-%E2%80%98elevate%E2%80%99-walking-car-concept-creates-a-new-vehicle-category%2C-the-umv%2C-ultimate-mobility-vehicle-0000016092?pageNo=1&amp;searchKey=&amp;rowCount=6&amp;type%5B%5D=RES&amp;listPageUrl=news.release.all\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">news release<\/a> and image on Wednesday morning.<\/p><p>All we can glean from those is that Elevate is an electric vehicle with four robotic legs, each of which has a wheel where a foot would normally be &mdash; not entirely unlike the nightmare-inducing <a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/WM0RFE3QGAU\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Wheelers<\/a> from &ldquo;Return to Oz.&rdquo;<\/p><p>The legs appear to have at least three joints each. Those are presumably what allow the vehicle to &ldquo;drive, walk, or even climb over the most treacherous terrain,&rdquo; as stated in the press release.<\/p><figure><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-large wp-image-147132\" src=\"https:\/\/wp-assets.futurism.com\/2019\/01\/Hyundai-elevate-walking-car-1200x1100.jpg\" alt=\"walking car\" width=\"1200\" height=\"1100\" style=\"padding-left:10px; padding-right: 10px;\"><figcaption>Image Credit: Hyundai<\/figcaption><\/figure><h2>Kick the Wheels<\/h2><p>Hyundai&nbsp;is calling&nbsp;Elevate the world&rsquo;s first Ultimate Mobility Vehicle (UMV),&nbsp;which it says&nbsp;will &ldquo;take people where no vehicle has been before.&rdquo;<\/p><p>As for who those people might be, the giant red cross on the side of the walking car could indicate potential use as a rescue vehicle following a <a href=\"https:\/\/futurism.com\/walk-man-italian-humanoid-robot\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">disaster<\/a>. That would make sense given that the car is navigating across rubble in the press image. After all,&nbsp;it doesn&rsquo;t exactly seem like something you&rsquo;d use for trips to the grocery store.<\/p><p>We&rsquo;ll have to wait until Monday&rsquo;s showcase of the Elevate prototype to find out any other plans Hyundai has for the vehicle.
