But a combination of several factors&nbsp;&mdash; including Brexit, the U.S.-China trade war, and&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/futurism.com\/europe-dramatically-accelerates-plans-create-coal-free-continent\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">new emissions targets in Europe<\/a>&nbsp;&mdash; has dealt a major blow to global car sales this year.<\/p><p>&ldquo;When you look at 2018 since the summer, new car sales in all of the important markets are going down,&rdquo; Axel Schmidt, global automotive lead at Accenture, told <em>FT<\/em>. &ldquo;Selling combustion engine cars to customers &mdash; this will not grow in the future.&rdquo;<\/p><p>Even if overall car sales increase in 2019, ICE sales would likely fall thanks to the continued adoption of electric vehicles (EVs).<\/p><h2>Road to Recovery<\/h2><p>This might not be what ICEcar manufacturers want to hear, but it&rsquo;s excellent news for the environment.<\/p><p>According to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.woodmac.com\/press-releases\/evs-up-to-67-less-emissions-intensive-than-ice-cars\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">energy research group Wood Mackenzie<\/a>, a mid-sized EV produces 67 percent fewer greenhouse gas emissions than a comparable gasoline-powered&nbsp;ICE vehicle.
