During a two-day game of cat and mouse &mdash; the drone kept reappearing as soon as Gatwick decided to reopen its runways &mdash; more than 120,000 passengers and some 760 flights were affected by the disruption, according to the <em>BBC<\/em>.<\/p><h2>Clueless<\/h2><p>Local law enforcement <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.com\/news\/uk-england-sussex-46623754\">believes it was<\/a> a &ldquo;deliberate act.&rdquo; At the time of reporting, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.com\/news\/uk-england-sussex-46640033\">no arrests<\/a> have been made. Possible jail time: five years, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=QBk6NDr29gE\">according<\/a> to Transport Secretary Chris Grayling.<\/p><p>&ldquo;This kind of incident is unprecedented anywhere in the world, the disruption of an airport in this way,&rdquo; Grayling said, as <a href=\"https:\/\/phys.org\/news\/2018-12-drone-threat-steep-airport-chiefs.html\">quoted<\/a> by <em>Agence France-Presse.<\/em>&nbsp;&ldquo;We&rsquo;re going to have to learn very quickly from what&rsquo;s happened.&rdquo;<\/p><p>It&rsquo;s not even the first time a drones&nbsp;have disrupted the operations of an airport, as the <em>AFP<\/em> <a href=\"https:\/\/phys.org\/news\/2018-12-drone-threat-steep-airport-chiefs.html\">points out<\/a>. Drones caused chaos three times at Dubai International Airport in 2016, and an airline pilot avoided a crash with a drone in Paris in February 2016.<\/p><h2>Eagles and Lasers<\/h2><p>So what can we do about drones at airports?<\/p><p>When it comes to commercial drones near runways and other no-fly zones, security companies have invented&nbsp;&ldquo;jamming&rdquo; guns that cause drones to stop dead in their track, and even&nbsp;fall from the sky. For instance, Virginia-based security company <a href=\"https:\/\/futurism.com\/new-gun-can-jam-signals-and-take-down-drones-from-more-than-a-mile-away\/\">DroneShield&rsquo;s DroneGun<\/a> can force a drone to land without even destroying it from a mile away by pointing a massive signal-jamming gun at it.<\/p><p>Other methods include <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=9ElNjgZCDpQ\">high-energy lasers<\/a> that can obliterate small drones from several miles away.
