was called the Big Falcon&nbsp;Rocket.<\/p><p>But on Monday, Elon Musk announced on Twitter&nbsp;that its name was&nbsp;changing&nbsp;to &ldquo;Starship.&rdquo; That marks the fourth name change since&nbsp;SpaceX announced the craft more than&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.forbes.com\/sites\/steveschaefer\/2013\/06\/06\/with-tesla-and-solarcity-soaring-elon-musk-talks-down-spacex-ipo-plans\/#418f08ec59ad\">five years ago<\/a>.<\/p><p>Before mid-2016, it was <a href=\"https:\/\/techcrunch.com\/2016\/09\/17\/spacexs-mars-colonial-transporter-can-go-well-beyond-mars\/\">referred to<\/a> as the &ldquo;Mars Colonial Transporter.&rdquo; In mid-2016, it <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=0qo78R_yYFA\">turned<\/a> into the &ldquo;Interplanetary Transport System.&rdquo; In September 2017 it was dubbed the &ldquo;BFR,&rdquo; for Big Falcon Rocket&nbsp;&mdash; though its codename <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wired.co.uk\/article\/elon-musk-bfr-big-rocket-earth-mars-spacex\">reportedly contained<\/a> a certain expletive in place of &ldquo;falcon.&rdquo;<\/p><blockquote data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\"><p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Renaming BFR to Starship<\/p><p>&mdash; itself is the &ldquo;spaceship\/upper stage&rdquo; while the gigantic rocket booster required to leave Earth&rsquo;s gravitational pull will be called &ldquo;Super Heavy.&rdquo;<\/p><p>The latter is likely a reference to the SpaceX&rsquo;s Falcon Heavy booster, currently the rocket with the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/39779-falcon-heavy-facts.html\">highest payload capacity<\/a> of any rocket in operation.<\/p><h2>&ldquo;Delightfully Counter-Intuitive&rdquo;<\/h2><p>The news comes after Elon <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/elonmusk\/status\/1063865779156729857\">tweeted<\/a> that the BFR&rsquo;s new design will be &ldquo;delightfully counter-intuitive.&rdquo; We have yet to see what that meant.<\/p><p>Elon also announced that SpaceX <a href=\"https:\/\/www.teslarati.com\/spacex-ceo-elon-musk-kills-mini-bfr-spaceship-two-weeks-after-announcement\/\">scrapped plans<\/a> for a &ldquo;mini-BFR&rdquo;
