That&rsquo;s understandable,&nbsp;because mobile apps such as&nbsp;Google Maps&nbsp;and&nbsp;Waze are easier to use and more accurate than whatever your car manufacturer preloaded on your unwieldy digital dashboard.<\/p><p>But now, one major automaker conglomerate is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.zdnet.com\/article\/android-in-your-car-google-is-working-with-renault-nissan-and-mitsubishi-on-infotainment-systems\/\">cutting out the middle man<\/a>&nbsp;&mdash; your phone&nbsp;&mdash; by partnering with Google to produce its next-gen media displays.<\/p><p>On Tuesday, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.alliance-2022.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi Alliance<\/a>, a strategic partnership of automakers that together accounts for the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.economist.com\/business\/2018\/03\/17\/renault-nissan-mitsubishi-has-become-the-worlds-biggest-carmaker\">majority of cars<\/a> manufactured in the world, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wsj.com\/articles\/google-to-partner-with-biggest-car-alliance-1537243260?mod=djem10point\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">told <em>The Wall Street Journal<\/em><\/a> it plans to use Google&rsquo;s Android operating system to power its in-dash media displays, which drivers can use for everything from navigation to entertainment.<\/p><h2>SUBPAR SYSTEMS<\/h2><p>In-dash media displays have been a thorn in automakers&rsquo; sides. They&rsquo;re the &ldquo;most problematic&rdquo; category for new car owners, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.jdpower.com\/business\/press-releases\/2018-us-initial-quality-study-iqs\">according to<\/a> market research company J.D. Power &mdash; which leads drivers to rely on their smartphones instead.<\/p><p>If Google can produce a display that drivers prefer to those currently available, the tech could give the members of the Alliance a leg up on their competition.
