Last year they looked at <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.edge.org\/3rd_culture\/serpentine07\/serpentine07_index.html\">equations<\/a>; this year they&rsquo;re looking at <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.edge.org\/documents\/Edge-Serpentine-MapsGallery\/index.html\">maps<\/a>. It&rsquo;s a playful and broad conception of what constitutes a &ldquo;map&rdquo;; you will see a few astrophysical examples in there.<\/p><p>Here&rsquo;s an excerpt from a <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.edge.org\/documents\/Edge-Serpentine-MapsGallery\/large-11.html\">map of the emotions<\/a> by Emanuel Derman, based on Spinoza&rsquo;s <em>Ethics<\/em>.
