{"id":27902,"date":"2010-08-11T14:30:44","date_gmt":"2010-08-11T14:30:44","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/euvolution.com\/futurist-transhuman-news-blog\/lost-to-the-galaxy\/"},"modified":"2010-08-11T14:30:44","modified_gmt":"2010-08-11T14:30:44","slug":"lost-to-the-galaxy","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.euvolution.com\/futurist-transhuman-news-blog\/astronomy\/lost-to-the-galaxy.php","title":{"rendered":"Lost to the Galaxy"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Hypervelocity stars, such as the on referenced in <a href=\"http:\/\/tomsastroblog.com\/?p=6456\" target=\"_blank\">Tom&rsquo;s post<\/a>,  are stars which are moving so fast they have achieved escape velocity  from the galaxy.&nbsp; Sounds cool, but they&rsquo;re also known as &ldquo;exiled stars&rdquo;,  so maybe not so much.&nbsp; They achieve velocity through gravity assist; by  getting too close to something of high mass (like a supermassive black  hole), and getting a sling-shot out of the galaxy.&nbsp; The star maintains  its shape and life cycle, but any planets that were around it would&rsquo;ve  been lost by the sling.&nbsp; These are incredible forces you&rsquo;re dealing  with.&nbsp; There is nothing gentle about the process.<\/p><div><a href=\"http:\/\/euvolution.com\/futurist-transhuman-news-blog\/wp-content\/plugins\/wp-o-matic\/cache\/5cf96_Chandra-image-of-Sgr-A.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-6635 \" src=\"http:\/\/euvolution.com\/futurist-transhuman-news-blog\/wp-content\/plugins\/wp-o-matic\/cache\/5cf96_Chandra-image-of-Sgr-A.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"460\" height=\"359\" style=\"padding-left:10px; padding-right: 10px;\"><\/a><p>Chandra image of Sgr A*, NASA\/CXC\/MIT\/F.
