{"id":254217,"date":"2012-06-01T11:19:57","date_gmt":"2012-06-01T11:19:57","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.eugenesis.com\/lynn-tech-classmates-learn-about-industry-from-professionals\/"},"modified":"2012-06-01T11:19:57","modified_gmt":"2012-06-01T11:19:57","slug":"lynn-tech-classmates-learn-about-industry-from-professionals","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.euvolution.com\/futurist-transhuman-news-blog\/biology\/lynn-tech-classmates-learn-about-industry-from-professionals.php","title":{"rendered":"Lynn Tech classmates learn about industry from professionals"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><p>Home > News Lynn Tech classmates learn about industry from  professionals By Thor Jourgensen \/  The Daily Item  <\/p>\n<p>    LYNN  James Niemann spent about 20 minutes explaining    cellular biology to Lynn Vocational Technical Institute    students Thursday at North Shore Community College.  <\/p>\n<p>    Then he explained how he almost derailed the college education    he needed to become a scientist.  <\/p>\n<p>    \"I blew a $54,000 scholarship,\" he said.  <\/p>\n<p>    After losing focus on his studies at the University of Rhode    Island, Niemann transferred to the University of New Hampshire,    where he got his college career back on track.  <\/p>\n<p>    \"I didn't give up,\" he said.  <\/p>\n<p>    Niemann, a Beverly resident who works for Danvers cell    technology, and three other science professionals spent    Thursday morning talking to 48 Lynn Tech, Salem High School and    Wakefield-based Northeastern Metropolitan Regional Vocational    School students about science careers and how to land them.  <\/p>\n<p>    Niemann urged students to study subjects they love in college    and apply for internships, stressing a semester spent washing    laboratory glassware could lead to a job.  <\/p>\n<p>    \"You have to be hardworking and passionate about what you do,\"    he said.  <\/p>\n<p>    A long-time interest in science and high school biology    teachers who encouraged him sent Neimann off to college    enthusiastic, but unprepared.
