REGINA Major League Baseball is interviewing some of its biggest stars after the founder of a Miami anti-aging clinic alleged to have sold performance enhancing drugs agreed to speak with them. <\/p>\n
Some of the names tied to the clinic include Milwaukee Brewer Ryan Braun, New York Yankee Alex Rodriguez and Toronto Blue Jay Melky Cabrera. Suspensions are possible, but the MLBPA says it has been assured no decisions regarding discipline will be made until the interviews are completed. <\/p>\n
Its a process those tasked with keeping amateur athletes in Saskatchewan clean are watching very closely. <\/p>\n
People will find ways to use anything to gain an advantage, said Scott Jule, the Manager of Sport Medicine Services at the Sport Medicine and Science Council of Saskatchewan. I think finally now a major sport industry like Major League Baseball is kind of taking a more active stance on this kind of thing, whereas in the past, 15 or 20 years ago, it was kind of swept under the rug a little bit. <\/p>\n
Jule works with coaches and amateur athletes from across Saskatchewan, providing drug education and doping control workshops with a direct message about the damage these drugs can do to the body. <\/p>\n
Internal organ dysfunction later on in life, Jule added. Everything from severe acne to yellowing of the skin. Those are just a few of the more common ones. <\/p>\n
At the minor baseball level, Saskatchewan Baseball coaches are specifically trained to speak about drugs with their players. <\/p>\n
They talk about banned substances and performance enhancing drugs, and theyre trained on how to handle that kind of stuff, said Nolan Bracken, who heads up grass roots development. <\/p>\n
Bracken hopes with this new round of investigations young athletes will look up to those who have stayed clean, and learn what can be achieved when working within the rules. <\/p>\n
A guy like Derek Jeter, or guys like that, who has never had his name tied to any sort of performance enhancing drugs, hes a first ballot hall of famer. <\/p>\n
