\n SAGINAW \u2014 DNA evidence appears to contradict today\u2019s testimony
\n from the accused shooter in the August 2010 death of Corey
\n Nash.\n <\/p>\n

\n State Police Forensic Scientist Heather Clark testified today
\n that Travis D. Farrow\u2019s DNA was found on a .40-caliber Glock
\n handgun that police said was thrown from the vehicle that
\n Bryant E. Bentley Jr. and Farrow were riding in after Nash\u2019s
\n shooting death.\n <\/p>\n

\n Clark testified during the fourth day of Farrow\u2019s trial before
\n Saginaw County Circuit Judge James T. Borchard. The trial was
\n to continue Tuesday.\n <\/p>\n

\n Nash was shot about 4:45 p.m. Aug. 1 in the parking lot of the
\n Riverview Plaza strip mall on West Genesee between North
\n Michigan and North Niagara on Saginaw\u2019s West Side.\n <\/p>\n

\n Farrow<\/a>[1]<\/sup><\/small><\/a> took
\n the stand in his own defense this afternoon and delivered a
\n version of the events much like his second statement to
\n police<\/a>[2]<\/sup><\/small><\/a>. He
\n testified that Bentley arranged a cocaine deal with Nash and
\n then shot Nash in the parking lot after an argument while
\n Farrow was in Bentley\u2019s white Chevrolet Lumina van. Farrow
\n testified that Bentley came back to the van with two guns and
\n cocaine, they drove away and soon were chased by police.\n <\/p>\n

\n Testimony earlier this week showed that two guns \u2014 the
\n .40-caliber gun and a .45-caliber Colt handgun \u2014 were thrown
\n from the passenger side of the vehicle. Farrow on Friday
\n admitted to throwing the guns from the van.\n <\/p>\n

\n State police Detective Sgt. Ryan Larrison testified that the
\n Glock handgun fired two shell casings located in the Riverview
\n parking lot. The firearms expert testified that he could not
\n exclude the Glock from being the gun that fired the bullet that
\n killed Nash. Clark testified that Bentley\u2019s DNA was not on the
\n .40-caliber gun.\n <\/p>\n

\n Farrow also told police that he was wearing a red shirt, not a
\n black shirt, when the shooting happened and he and Bentley ran.
\n Clark testified that Farrow\u2019s DNA was not on the red shirt
\n seized in connection with the chase and identified as the shirt
\n that the driver of the van was wearing. Farrow testified Friday
\n that he was wearing the black shirt and that his words were
\n mixed up by police during the interview.\n <\/p>\n

\n Additionally, Clark testified that Nash\u2019s DNA was found on the
\n van\u2019s steering wheel and interior driver\u2019s side door handle.
\n Such evidence contradicts Farrow\u2019s statements and agrees with
\n the story that a fellow jail of inmate of Farrow\u2019s testified
\n Friday that he heard Farrow tell another inmate.\n <\/p>\n

\n In that story, Nash entered the van, argued with Bentley, threw
\n the cocaine out of a window, and began fighting with Bentley
\n for a gun. Farrow stepped out of the van, grabbed the cocaine,
\n and then, at Bentley\u2019s request, shot Nash, the inmate
\n testified. The inmate who said he heard the confession denied
\n Friday that he heard Farrow confess.\n <\/p>\n

\n After a four-month investigation, prosecutors charged Farrow,
\n who last lived at 613 N. Mason in Saginaw, and Bentley with
\n felony murder, which means that someone was killed during the
\n commission of a specified felony, armed robbery, and conspiring
\n to commit that crime. Farrow faces six other felonies.\n <\/p>\n

\n A jury in October acquitted Bentley of the murder charge and
\n convicted him of armed robbery, conspiracy and nine other
\n felonies. Borchard sentenced
\n Bentley<\/a>[3]<\/sup><\/small><\/a> to a total
\n of 64 years and six months to 95 years and nine months in
\n prison.\n <\/p>\n<\/div>\n
