TARLAC CITY, Tarlac - The city government here was conferred recently the Consistent Regional Outstanding Winner on Nutrition (CROWN) Award after laudable achievements in ensuring the nutritional well-being of its constituents. <\/p>\n
City Councilor and Sangguniang Panlungsod Health and Sanitation Committee chair Arsenio Lugay II received the honor in behalf of Mayor Gelacio Manalang from Health Assistant Secretary Gerardo Bayugo during the recent Regional Nutrition Awarding Ceremony. <\/p>\n
\"We are deeply honored to receive this award and we accept it with humility and pride and with sincere commitment that we will continue to uphold what we have begun in our beloved city\" said Lugay. <\/p>\n
The city government has concentrated on programs such as \"Kinse sa BNC (Barangay Nutrition Committee)\" which sets aside 15 percent of the proceeds of income-generating barangay projects for such cause. <\/p>\n
Other noteworthy initiatives include the implementation of Gulayan sa Paaralan in 94 elementary schools; Infant and Young Child Feeding training to enhance knowledge of nutrition workers on breastfeeding and salt iodization, and the 120-day supplemental feeding for preschoolers. <\/p>\n
The CROWN accolade is conferred to a province, city or municipality that has been a recipient of the Green Banner Award (GBA) for three years in a row. <\/p>\n
