The Campaign to Stop Killer Robots officially demanded the international organisation create a ban on the production ofweaponisableartificial intelligence tech. <\/p>\n
The group brings together 116 enterprise leaders headed by business magnate Elon Musk. <\/p>\n
Mary Wareham, the founder of the campaign, discussed the reasons for the move withChannel 4 NewsKrishnan Guru-Murthy. <\/p>\n
She said: \"The letter issued by the companies' directors has highlighted that they worry not only about responsible countries who might use these things responsibly. <\/p>\n

\"What about despots and dictators? What about non-state armed groups such as the IslamicState?\" <\/p>\n
Ms Wareham explained the group recognised the benefits of artificial technology development but worried about the long-term implications for active combat. <\/p>\n
She said: \"Over the short term these weapons systems could be more useful and faster and more powerful than human soldiers. <\/p>\n
\"We need to look at the long term concerns and the protection of civilians.\" <\/p>\n
In the letter sent to the UN, the group stated that robots represent a dangerous development for the weapon industry. <\/p>\n
The companies' directors write: \"Lethal autonomous weapons threaten to become the thirdrevolution in warfare. <\/p>\n
\"Once developed, they will permit armed conflict to be foughtata scale greater than ever, and at timescales faster than humans can comprehend. <\/p>\n
\"We do not have long to act. Once this Pandoras box is opened, it will be hard to close.\" <\/p>\n
