TAMPA Square 1 Burgers & Bar, a restaurant chain based in Tampa, has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection. <\/p>\n
The restaurant chain, known for its wide ranging menu of burger creations, will close some of its locations in Florida, but stores in the thee locations in the Tampa Bay area will not be affected. However restaurants will close in the Orlando and Sarasota markets, according to the filing. <\/p>\n
Square 1 Burgers could be feeling the pinch from too many competitors in the burger market. Drama Burger, a Lithuanian burger restaurant that opened on Kennedy Boulevard last year, shuttered recently. Other newcomer chains similar in concept, from Smashburger to Burgerfi, continue to expand in Tampa Bay as well as throughout the state. <\/p>\n
The parent company of Joe's Crab Shack, which has one restaurant in the Clearwater area, also recently filed for bankruptcy. <\/p>\n
