The University at Buffalo Jacobs School of Medicine has hired 12 new faculty members. <\/p>\n
The new faculty members are part of a surge in hiring planned as the university moves itsmedical school downtown where it will be the gateway of the medical campus from its south campus on the Amherst border. The new hires are joining five departments within the medical school. <\/p>\n
Many of the new faculty are within the general medicine department, while other hires are in family medicine, biomedical informatics, pathology and anatomical sciences and surgery. <\/p>\n
The School of Medicine will opena $375 million state-of-the-art building on the Buffalo Niagara Medical Campus later this year, with the first group of students taking classes there next January. As it moves into an expanded educational space, the medical school has increased the size of itsstudent body. The incoming medical school class is up by 25 percent, puttingenrollment at 180 students. <\/p>\n
The number of full-time medical school faculty is expected to grow to 860 by 2020, up from 778 faculty members in December 2015. The university has sought to attract top faculty from across the nation. <\/p>\n
Medical School Dean Dr. Michael E. Cain, vice president for health sciences, has previously cited a steady rise in faculty members since 2011: <\/p>\n
