Health care stocks were sharply lower, with the NYSE Health Care Sector Index dropping about 1.3% and shares of health care companies in the S&P 500 down almost 1.7% as a group. <\/p>\n
In company news, Calithera Biosciences ( CALA ) rallied Friday after announcing an exclusive global license agreement with TransTech Pharma, securing exclusive global development and commercialization rights of TransTech's hexokinase II inhibitors. <\/p>\n
Hexokinase II is an enzyme that limits the ability of cancer cells to convert glucose into energy, hindering their growth. <\/p>\n
Under the terms of the agreement, CALA will pay an unspecified upfront amount to TransTech in addition to future payments and royalties as Hexokinase II reaches pre-determined clinical and commercial milestones. <\/p>\n
