(January 15, 2015) - The Missouri Comets (12-0) will return to the Independence Events Center six days after defeating the Tulsa Revolution 18-2. However, this time the Comets will be without four key players and their head coach as they try to earn the team's thirteenth consecutive victory against the St. Louis Ambush (3-7) on Friday at 7:00 p.m.

The match will feature new faces on both sides after St. Louis acquired forward Gordy Gurson from the Seattle Impact earlier this week. Gurson is currently the league's top scorer with 37 goals and stands second in the MASL standings with 48 points only after Comets forward Leo Gibson who totals 49 points with 25 goals and 24 assists in twelve matches.

On the other hand, the Comets announced the signing of Canadian goalkeeper Stephen Paterson on Wednesday. Paterson will be making his professional debut against the Ambush, as he will start instead of injured Danny Waltman.

In addition to Waltman (ankle), Missouri will be without Milan Ivanovic (AC sprain), Ramone Palmer (hamstring) and Coady Andrews (ankle) as they continue to recover from their respective injuries.

For the second time this season, assistant coach Goran Karadzov will lead the Comets since head coach Vlatko Andonovski, also NWSL champion FC Kansas City's head coach, will not be able to return in time from Philadelphia, PA where the College Draft will take place on Friday.

Last week, Josh Gardner made his Major Arena Soccer League debut with the Comets and earned Borden Man of the Match honors recording six points with a hat trick and two assists against the Revolution.

The Ambush are coming from a hard fought 7-5 loss to the Wichita B-52s at the Hartman Arena where former Comets player Stefan St. Louis scored his last goal with St. Louis as he was traded to the Milwaukee Wave earlier this week.

This will be the second out of three times both teams meet on the field. Two weeks ago, Andonovski's team defeated the St. Louis Ambush 8-5 at the Family Arena where they will meet again on February 6.

Next up, the Comets will head to Mexico where they will visit Southern Division folks Saltillo Rancho Seco on Friday and Monterrey Flash on Sunday.

Discuss this story on the Major Arena Soccer League message board...
