December 27, 2014 - Major Arena Soccer League (MASL) Missouri Comets INDEPENDENCE, MO - The Missouri Comets faced their toughest challenge of the season but came out with a tight 10-7 victory over the San Diego Sockers to remain undefeated in the 2014\/15 Major Arena Soccer League season on Saturday night at the Independence Events Center. <\/p>\n
Defender Brian Harris was named the Borden Man of the Match with a four-point match recording two goals and two assists, while team leader Leo Gibson added three more points to his name with two tallies and one assist. <\/p>\n
Two weeks after having defeated the Wichita B-52s for the second time in the season, Head Coach Vlatko Andonovski's team came back twice to earn their ninth consecutive victory over San Diego who will visit the St. Louis Ambush on Sunday. <\/p>\n
Only fourteen seconds into the match, San Diego's Kraig Chiles found the back of the net followed by a tally from Ney five minutes later to give the visitors a 2-0 lead. However, the reigning MISL Champions scored back-to-back goals courtesy of Harris, Gibson and team captain Vahid Assadpour in less than a five-minute span to end the quarter with a 3-2 lead. <\/p>\n
Each team would score twice in the second stanza. Less than two minutes into the quarter, goalkeeper Danny Waltman led an attack after controlling the ball all the way to San Diego's box, which ended in Alain Matingou's first tally of the evening. <\/p>\n
Another goal by Assadpour gave the Comets a 5-2 lead before Chiles and Nick Perera notched two goals to end the half with a partial 6-5 score. <\/p>\n
The half time break featured some of Kansas City's most renowned media members such as Jake Yadrich from Sporting Kansas City, Nick Vasos, Shannon Oleen, Holly Starr among others play a scrimmage game, which ended in a 1-1 tie. <\/p>\n
San Diego came back to the field with an offensive mindset and regained the lead when Ney and former Comets player Jeff Hughes beat Waltman to make it 7-6 before Max Touloute tied the match with four minutes left in the quarter. <\/p>\n
Three consecutive goals for the Comets in the fourth quarter scored by Gibson, Harris and Matingou forced the visitors to put in a sixth attacker for the last five minutes, which resulted in another goal from Chiles before Assadpour sealed the victory with a goal from his own half to end the match 10-7. <\/p>\n
Next up, the Comets will visit the Milwaukee Wave on New Year's eve at 7:00 p.m. before visiting the St. Louis Ambush on January 3. <\/p>\n
