Freedom of speech needs to be practiced responsibly <\/p>\n
In response to Jeff Simons commentary regarding The Interview, this is one of the few times that I agree with him. Ah, but that is a subject for another letter. <\/p>\n
We enjoy the rights granted to us by the Constitution of the United States, including freedom of speech. However, with all rights comes responsibility. While we have freedom of speech, we cannot, or should not, exercise that right if our speech will potentially harm others. Think of racial comments, sexual harassment, yelling fire in a crowded theater, etc. <\/p>\n
Furthermore, we live in a global society, including a multitude of cultures that are vastly different than ours. Thus, we must act responsibly, and we must consider the impact of our free speech on others. As Simon said, Its called empathy. <\/p>\n
