FORT ELLIS There are far more fish species than striped bass that spawn and live in the Stewiacke River that could be impacted by having salt brine released into the eco system, a commercial fisherman says.<\/p>\n
Its not the only species it affects by far, said Darren Porter, who also serves as the vice-president of the Striped Bass Anglers Associationof Nova Scotia. <\/p>\n
Youve got all these other species that use this system, to spawn in, not just live in, he said, of other fish stocks that include smelt, shad, gaspereau, river herring, salmon, sea-run trout and speckled trout. <\/p>\n
These are very important species, Porter said, while discussing concerns with other fish association members at the base camp of a protest site held this week along Highway 102 near Stewiacke. <\/p>\n
