KASSON, Minn. (KTTC) -- Hundreds participated in the freedom walk through Kasson Thursday. <\/p>\n
Every year, people get together to remember those who lost their lives, and honor the men and women who keep us safe every day. They marched through the streets carrying American Flags and ended at Veterans Memorial Park. There, people shared their memories of 9\/11. <\/p>\n
Todd Nelson was stationed at the Pentagon, but happened to be in Florida at the time it was hit. <\/p>\n
\"The other thing that was ironic, because my family in Virginia knew where I was, but my parents in Minnesota didn't know where I was. It's something you don't think about when you're a distance away. My wife and kids knew I was fine, but my mom and dad didn't. And they were freaking out,\" said Nelson. <\/p>\n
Fortunately, Nelson was eventually able to get through to his parents and let them know he was OK. <\/p>\n
He was also able to get in touch with his Colonel who called him back to the Pentagon. With no air travel, Nelson went by car and showed up a couple days after the attacks, and says the Pentagon was still burning. This of course is just one of many 9\/11 stories shared at the Freedom Walk. <\/p>\n
