Defensive back Dominic Joseph earned it in week 1, linebacker Jeffrey Morgan won the award in week 5, and defensive linemen Marques Slocum (week 6) and William Hollis (week 7) received the honors just a couple weeks ago.

Unlike the other four defensive players, Wise is the first to earn the weekly award for performance on the special-teams unit.

"Winning the award feels really good," Wise said. "But I'm just happy we got the win. When that many defensive players on this team have that many awards being that it's the fifth time, it shows how strong, athletic, and hungry we are. We have a lot of young guys, and they're really talented players."

Tied for second on the team with four tackles in Saturday's 55-42 victory over the Lehigh Valley, Wise's presence was felt even more in the return game.

Early in the fourth quarter, Steelhawks kicker Michael Barnard missed a field goal near the Steelhawks goal line. It was then picked up at the Freedom six-yard line by Wise and taken back for a 44-yard touchdown.

It gave Trenton a 20-point lead with 11:12 remaining in the final quarter of play, and proved to be a difference-maker against a Lehigh Valley team that had won the two previous head-to-head battles.

"I was seeing a big hole right up the middle," Wise said. "I knew that as soon as I saw it, I would be fast enough to get through. All I needed was the opportunity to catch the ball and I was able to field it cleanly. So it was a good feeling when I hit the endzone and that it was a key special-teams play."

In three games with the Freedom, Wise has tallied six tackles (five solo, two assisted), and has one of the team's four interceptions this 2014 season.

Wise and the rest of the Trenton Freedom are on bye for week 10, but will travel to Harrisburg to kick off week 11 against the Stampede in another National Conference battle. The game will take place on Friday June 6 at 7:30PM at the Giant Center.

See more here:

Wise Named Week 9 Special Teams Player of the Week

May 27, 2014 - Professional Indoor Football League (PIFL) Trenton Freedom Freedom defensive back Christian Wise was awarded PIFL Special Teams Player of the Week honors following Trenton's 55-42 victory over the Lehigh Valley Steelhawks in week 9.
